ANNUAL DESIGN EXCELLENCE CALL FOR ENTRIES – DESIGN IMPACTS LIVES:

PROFESSIONAL DESIGN EXCELLENCE CATEGORIES:
- Commercial under 10,000 sf (2 – 6 photos max)
- Commercial over 10,000 sf (2 – 6 photos max)
- Residential
- Single Residence (2 – 4 photos max)
- Kitchen (2 – 4 photos max)
- Bathroom (2 – 4 photos max)
- Hospitality (2 – 6 photos max)
- Sustainable Design (2 – 6 photos max)
- Residential or commercial project whose design minimized products harmful effects on human health and the built environment. Utilized products that support energy efficiency, good indoor air quality and reduction of waste. Project may have participated in a third party rating system such as USGBC LEED, Green Globes, Energy Star etc. Project summary must show at least 3 sustainable attributes the submitted project met or exceeded through the interior environment. This is a new category for our Intermountain Chapter – if there is a lot of interest we will make a more robust category next year.
- Specialty Product (2 – 4 photos max)
- Residential or Commercial application of specialty product showing imaginative use or application of product design. Cannot be conceptual- must have been used or constructed on a project. This is a new category created to open up to Industry Partners, Emerging Professionals – let your creative juices flow and show us how it turned out.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARDS – DESIGN IMPACTS LIVES:
- Entrant must be a current member of the Intermountain Chapter of ASID in good standing
- Submission must represent work NOT submitted in a previous ASID Intermountain award competition
- Provide $50 per entry submission
- Entrant may submit multiple projects under each category, the entry fee applies to each work submitted
- Upload high resolution photography, floor plan, and design statement for each submission (image minimum size 500kb maximum 3MG)
- Photography must include photo release for publication in Mountain Living, our Website and other media sources
- Before photos are optional (limited to 2 - 4/entry)
- Floor Plans must be submitted to scale, with scale noted or shown graphically in pdf format
- One Page Design Statement that includes project location, size and category, DO NOT INCLUDE firm name on any documentation to ensure anonymity in judging. Please include an explanation how your design solution impacts the lives of your clients and end users.
- Design Statement should include project location, size and category, DO NOT INCLUDE firm name on any documentation to ensure anonymity in judging.
- Representative from the firm must be present to win (does not have to be entrant but someone to act on their behalf should they win)
In the event of insufficient or inadequate entries, the Intermountain Chapter of ASID reserves the right to cancel the category or contest and refund entry fees or restructure the categories in such a way as to permit fair and proper judging of entries received. The Intermountain Chapter is not responsible for lost, misdirected or delayed submissions. Entrants grant the Intermountain Chapter of ASID the right to reproduce project images for promotional purposes. The Intermountain Chapter of ASID assumes all entries are the works and property of the entrant and that clients of the assumed projects have given their permission for this entry. The Intermountain Chapter of ASID is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant. Entry submissions become the property of the Intermountain Chapter of ASID, and will not be returned.
PAYMENT:
Entries received without payment will be disqualified. Entry fees are nonrefundable. One check may be used to cover multiple entries.
Checks: Make checks payable to The Intermountain Chapter of ASID. Mail checks to: PO Box 681751 Park City, UT 84068. Snail mail checks must be postmarked by Friday August 18th 2017 at the latest.
Online Payment: Submit your payment online for the Annual Design Excellence Call for Entries on EventBrite here. Online payments must be received no later than Friday August 18th 2017.
JUDGING:
To ensure impartial judging, all of the entries will be judged anonymously by a fellow ASID chapter. Submissions will be judged according to category submitted as well as the following criteria:
Successful entries will demonstrate exceptional design and positive impact on life and the human experience. Judges will use a weighted scale as outlined below (total 90 pts possible)
- 10 pts. – Effectiveness of the design solution
- Design Statement that clearly states creative challenges faced in each project and solutions implemented to work within these challenges
- 10 pts. – Functional use of space
- 10 pts. – Scale and proportion
- 10 pts. – Color and composition
- 10 pts. – Innovative use of materials
- 10 pts. – Creativity of the design solution
- Is the design approach creative, appropriate and sensitive to nvironmental or accessible challenges?
- 10 pts. – Effective use of lighting
- 10 pts. – Use of Sustainable design principles
- Note any sustainable attributes or standards that were employed.
- 10 pts. – Use of Universal design principles
- Note any universal/accessible standards that were employed.
PRIZES:
Winners of the competition will be announced at the Annual Meeting and Awards Gala on Saturday September 23th 2017 at the Deer Valley Resort.
Following this event, the winning entries will be posted on the Intermountain Chapter website, and featured on the Mountain Living website. The Winning projects will also be featured in the Call for Entries for the next Annual Meeting.
